03:37:53 kyleabaker sorry if this is not relevant for this chat room, but I was wondering if anyone knew how I can use object and param tags in my rss feeds and keep them valid? I have a php file that I created that builds the feeds for my site and it is fine, I just am not sure how to handle object and param tags so my feeds will include flash videos and such from time to time.
03:44:59 dantesoft i would take a look at an existing feed ;)
03:47:28 dantesoft http://www.makezine.com/blog/index.xml
03:47:38 dantesoft <!CDATA seems to do the trick

04:09:43   --> rose has joined #webapps
04:12:21   <-- rose has left #webapps stating ()
04:17:58 kyleabaker dantesoft: thats an interesting trick to avoid encoding some html tags, but validation still stops on object and param tags
04:18:42 kyleabaker that feed doesn't validate either: http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.makezine.com%2Fblog%2Findex.xml
04:21:40 dantesoft use namespaces ?
04:27:52 kyleabaker what do you mean?

04:45:34 kyleabaker interesting, i've never seen that done before
04:45:55 * dantesoft neither.. but since it's XML...

14:23:24 Remco Peer did it again!
14:23:27 coxy oops - i died
14:23:30 Orcinus yo yo again
14:23:33 * Remco checks if he still has that one linked
14:23:47 coxy yes, i was wondering what the best way to do this was: http://www.thedirection.co.uk/ssp_intl/dev/contact/index.html
14:24:08 coxy i want it so when people either roll over, or click on the flags, it shows the alternate address
14:24:26 coxy I was gonna hunt down a bit of javascript and edit it for my needs
14:24:46 Orcinus Where do you want it to show?
14:24:55 coxy in place of the current address
14:25:10 Orcinus Wot, no Canadian flag?
14:25:17 coxy no canada office ;)
14:25:20 Orcinus in the address bar?
14:25:52 coxy no, not the url, the actual mailing address of that branch
14:26:31 Orcinus That's not very user friendly
14:26:41 Orcinus Say my country is Greece
14:26:47 Remco Oh, you want the "Local contact" section to change?
14:26:56 coxy yes
14:26:56 coxy :)
14:27:06   --> Ramunas_ has joined #webapps
14:27:08 Orcinus and then I wanted to select and copy the contact information
14:27:27 coxy that's what I'm saying, you click on it, and it changes the info
14:27:28   <-- Ramunas has quit stating (Ping timeout)
14:27:34 coxy it's only text - you can copy and paste it
14:27:42 Remco Not when it changes on hover ;)
14:27:47 Orcinus okay, clicking is okay
14:27:53 Orcinus on hover would be bad
14:28:08 coxy no, not when it changes on hover. the person who designed it has notes which say on hover - and I agree with you guys
14:28:16   --> Ramunas has joined #webapps
14:28:24 coxy I'm trying to get it 'on click' for obvious reasons
14:29:06 coxy every user-friendly improvement I seem to have made so far has been knocked back because the original designs don't say to do such a thing....
14:29:20 coxy apparently it's strict following of the design and notes
14:29:58 Orcinus :|
14:30:04 Orcinus that kinda sucks
14:30:16   <-- Ramunas_ has quit stating (Ping timeout)
14:30:27 coxy on this page I have a bit of script to change images
14:30:28 coxy http://www.thedirection.co.uk/ssp_intl/dev/innovation/lgc.html
14:30:38 coxy could I use the same script, but just tell it to write text instead?
14:30:59 coxy shit
14:31:01 coxy i'm such a nonce
14:31:16 coxy i already made it write text cos i had to put them captions in
14:31:46 Orcinus Swapping content is a little more complicated than swapping images, but it's the same idea
14:31:47   --> Ramunas_ has joined #webapps
14:32:18 coxy well, i'm gonna be starting on doing it now, so any help along the way might be useful
14:32:34   <-- Ramunas has quit stating (Ping timeout)
14:32:38 coxy i'm not confident with writing javascript yet - but can still pull it together to work alright int he end
14:32:44   --> Ramunas has joined #webapps
14:33:01 Orcinus cool cool
14:34:47   <-- Ramunas_ has quit stating (Ping timeout)
14:57:19 gmoz I don't really see a complication in swapping content compared to swapping images
14:57:36 gmoz image.src = 'foo'; compared to element.innerHTML = 'foo';
14:57:42 gmoz I wouldn't say there's much difference =)
14:57:53 Orcinus bah
14:58:04 Orcinus innerHTML is for noobs
14:58:36 gmoz So you'd rather write three lines or so instead of that? :P
14:58:46 aleksanteri innerHTML rox
14:58:58 aleksanteri lol
14:59:12 gmoz DOM is better if you want to add events and more complex stuff
14:59:21 gmoz but for simple things, innerHTML is a better choice imo
15:00:02 Orcinus innerHTML won't work with the application/xhtml+xml mime type, which more and more sites are switching to, so I hope you are learning the right way to do it also :P
15:00:39 aleksanteri well Opera should make innerXHTML then
15:00:58 aleksanteri make = implement support for *
15:02:22 gmoz Yay for more pointless complications for JS?
15:02:32 gmoz As if dealing with crossbrowser issues isn't enough
15:02:40 gmoz Say hello to cross document type issues!
15:03:15 * aleksanteri doesn't want any more stupid and pointless complications, he's got enough concern to get the code work at all lol
15:04:04 gmoz I've been tinkering with some web 2.0 crap
15:04:15 gmoz YUI, Scriptaculous and Prototype
15:04:32 gmoz well, I've used Scriptaculous and Prototype before but never really used any web 2.0'ish features
15:04:47 gmoz it's silly easy to do an AJAXified form with Prototype
15:05:10 gmoz YUI on the other hand is... confusing
15:07:11 gmoz Well, at least the DataTable is
15:07:25 gmoz It seemed like a nice way to get a sortable table
15:07:48 gmoz which is does quite nicely, but try to add in place editing for the cells...
15:07:50 gmoz urgh
